The Surfrajettes

What's thicker: our eyeliner or our guitar strings? The Surfrajettes are an instrumental quartet from Toronto, Canada. Since their formation in late 2015, the band has captivated audiences with a clever blend of psychedelic rock and reverb-drenched surf music, all accompanied by towering beehive hairdos, go-go boots, and eyeliner as thick as their guitar strings. They quickly gained online recognition thanks to their viral DIY videos, as well as their appearance at Norman's Rare Guitars in Los Angeles. Their first 45 rpm single, Party Line / Toxic, released in late 2018 on Hi-Tide Recordings, was an immediate success. The band then embarked on tours, with performances on The Beach Boys Cruise, The Melissa Etheridge Cruise, and at festivals such as Sea. Hear. Now, Nashville Boogie, Wild O Fest in Mexico City, the Surf Guitar 101 Convention, Tiki Oasis, and the Hi-Tide Summer Holiday in Asbury Park. They then spent late 2020 and much of 2021 writing and recording their debut album, Roller Fink (Hi-Tide Recordings / Virgin Music), released in 2022. Between tours in Canada, the United States, and Europe, they composed their highly anticipated second album, Easy as Pie, released in October 2025.

The Surfrajettes consist of guitarists Shermy Freeman and Nicole Damoff, bassist Abby Jo Powell, and drummer Annie Lillis. When they're not on tour, they spend their time rehearsing in their secret beach hut, sewing new mini-skirts, debating vintage gear, and dreaming of starring in a Quentin Tarantino film.
