The Surfrajettes

Which is thicker: our eyeliner or our guitar strings? The Surfrajettes are an instrumental quartet from Toronto, Canada.

Since forming in late 2015, the band has won over audiences with a clever blend of psychedelic rock and reverb-drenched surf music, all topped off with vertiginous beehive hairdos, go-go boots and eyeliner as thick as their guitar strings.

They quickly made a name for themselves online thanks to their DIY videos that went viral, as well as their appearance at Norman's Rare Guitars in Los Angeles. Their first 7-inch single, Party Line / Toxic, released in late 2018 on Hi-Tide Recordings, was an instant success.

The band then went on to tour extensively, performing on The Beach Boys Cruise and The Melissa Etheridge Cruise, as well as at festivals such as Sea. Hear.

Now, Nashville Boogie, Wild O Fest in Mexico, the Surf Guitar 101 Convention, Tiki Oasis and the Hi-Tide Summer Holiday in Asbury Park.

They then spent late 2020 and much of 2021 writing and recording their debut album, Roller Fink (Hi-Tide Recordings / Virgin Music), released in 2022.

Between tours across Canada, the United States and Europe, they wrote their eagerly awaited second album, Easy as Pie, released in October 2025. The Surfrajettes are made up of guitarists Shermy Freeman and Nicole Damoff, bassist Abby Jo Powell and drummer Annie Lillis.

When they're not on tour, they spend their time rehearsing in their secret beach hut, sewing new mini-skirts, debating vintage gear and dreaming of appearing in a Quentin Tarantino film.
