Bringing together the viola da gamba, the signature instrument of the Baroque era, and the vibraphone, which was invented at the start of the 20th century, Les chevelus tritons ruffle the chronology of music and unfold an unheard-of sonic imagination. The two musicians, joined by the actress Coline Moser, offer a musical excursion through 16th-century Flanders, led by Till l'Espiègle. This legendary jester travels to the sound of the carillon through the Flemish towns and countryside under Spanish rule, in search of justice for the humblest.

The various episodes are staged through music, drawing on popular characters, but also on the dignitaries of the Church and the nobility who strive to keep their power through terror. Till's antics, the carnivalesque hero, slip between the staves and weave a song of freedom through the austere lines of Franco-Flemish counterpoint.
