About — The artist
Hannah Harding (born in 1990 as Hannah Sian Topp), known professionally as Aldous Harding, is an indie folk singer-songwriter from Lyttelton, New Zealand. She is known for her voice, described as “elastic and shape-shifting,” her enigmatic lyrics, and her eccentric performances and music videos.
Harding rose to prominence with the release of her self-titled debut album in 2014, inspired by English folk music. She then signed to 4AD to work with producer John Parish in Wales. With the release of her album Party in 2017, The Guardian called her “one of the most original songwriters of the moment.” Her next album, Designer, released in 2019, was described as “warm and full of humor” and “simply extraordinary.”
Two months after its release, Metacritic ranked Designer as the seventh best-reviewed album of 2019, and the eighth most-shared album of 2019. The track “The Barrel” won the APRA Silver Scroll Award. Released in 2022, Harding's fourth album, Warm Chris, confirmed this critical acclaim.
