About — The artist
Arthur Edward George Themen, born 26 November 1939, is a British jazz saxophonist and former orthopaedic surgeon. Critic John Fordham describes him as 'an engaging presence on the British jazz circuit for more than 40 years'. Originally a disciple of Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins, Themen has proved remarkably attentive to the saxophone styles of the generations that followed.
