Bruno Mars

Peter Eugene Hernandez, known as Bruno Mars, was born October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. He is an American singer-songwriter, musician, dancer-choreographer, art director, producer, director, stylist and businessman.

He grew up in a musical family and began his music career by producing other artists through the production team The Smeezingtons with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. He is known for his stage performances, retro aesthetic and works spanning a wide variety of musical styles, including R&B, funk, pop, soul, reggae, hip-hop and rock. Bruno Mars is accompanied by his band The Hooligans, which plays numerous instruments such as electric guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, drums and brass, and also performs dance roles.

He gained prominence with the title Nothin' on You by B.o.B, then Billionaire by Travie McCoy, before the worldwide release of his debut album Doo-Wops and Hooligans in 2010. He also co-wrote numerous tracks including Right Round by Flo Rida, Wavin' Flag by K'naan and Fuck You! by Cee Lo Green. In 2012, his second album Unorthodox Jukebox reached number one in the United States, Australia, Canada, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, winning a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. It contained the songs Locked Out of Heaven, When I Was Your Man and Treasure, which became international hits. The first won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. In 2011, Mars recorded the single It Will Rain for the film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011). In 2014, he featured on Mark Ronson's track Uptown Funk. Two years later, he released his third album titled 24K Magic, focused on R&B. The album debuted at number two in the United States, Canada, France and New Zealand and received seven Grammy Awards, winning the major categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Bruno Mars's music blends different musical styles. He works with artists across various musical genres; these collaborations are reflected in his own music. As a child, he was strongly influenced by artists like Elvis Presley, James Brown and Michael Jackson. Bruno Mars was also inspired by reggae and Motown sounds.

Bruno Mars has sold over 200 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has charted eight number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 since his career began in 2010, with his first five singles reaching number one faster than any male artist since Elvis Presley. As a songwriter, he was included in Music Week and Billboard magazine as one of the best songwriters of 2011 and 2013. Mars is the second most-awarded artist of the 2010s with 145 awards including 16 Grammy Awards, 3 Brit Awards, 9 American Music Awards, 10 Soul Train Music Awards and holds three Guinness World Records. He appeared on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2011, 30 under 30 in 2013 and Forbes' most powerful celebrities in the world in 2014, and on Celebrity 100 in 2018 and 2019.
