About — The artist
Foo Fighters is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington. It was formed in 1994 during the dissolution of Nirvana, following the death of its leader Kurt Cobain. Dave Grohl, the band's drummer, then launched his project, an album titled Foo Fighters on which he recorded all the instruments except for a few tracks recorded with the help of Krist Novoselic, former bassist of Nirvana, and Pat Smear, former live guitarist of the same band and member of the Germs.
However, not seeing himself starting a solo career, Dave Grohl recruited a guitarist, drummer, and bassist for Foo Fighters, of whom only Nate Mendel remains, bassist from the original lineup, as well as Pat Smear, who makes his return on their album Wasting Light, released in 2011 where he is rhythm guitarist. It was Taylor Hawkins who took over drums in 1997. The year before, Chris Shiflett had joined the band as second guitarist taking the role of lead guitarist. Finally, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, who had been a session and touring member since 2005, becomes an official member in 2017.
The band won 15 Grammy Awards including 5 in the 'Best Rock Album' category and sold 12 million albums in the United States alone. It is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on October 30, 2021.
On March 25, 2022, Taylor Hawkins, the band's drummer since 1997, dies at the age of 50. His death puts the band's activities on hold, as they abandon the international tour they had then begun. In June 2023, the band announces the upcoming release of its 11th album, titled But Here We Are, paying tribute to its late drummer.
