About — The artist
Fosca is a British band that combines indie pop songwriting with synthpop instrumentation. Originally formed by bassist Peter Theobalds, guitarist and lyricist Dickon Edwards, who was then playing in Orlando and would later play in Spearmint, and Orlando drummer David Gray, the group then became the vehicle for Edwards and his songs. For a decade, Edwards sang lead with several line-ups, mostly female, including one featuring guitarist Charley Stone, formerly of Gay Dad and later a member of The Priscillas.
The band released three studio albums between 2000 and 2008. Its name comes from the title character of Passion, the musical by Stephen Sondheim, inspired by Lawrence Venuti's translation of the novel Fosca by Iginio Ugo Tarchetti (1869). Fosca received press coverage in the daily newspaper The Independent.
