About — The artist
Girls is an American indie rock band from San Francisco, California. The group consists of two core members: singer-songwriter Christopher Owens and bassist Chet « JR » White, who produce all the tracks. Beyond its two official members, the group has recorded and toured with Ryan William Lynch, Garett Godard, Matthew Kallman, Darren Weiss, Dan Eisenberg and John Anderson.
Released in 2009, their debut album, titled Album, established Girls as an emerging band to watch, with critics unanimous in their praise of the record. By writing all the songs alone, Christopher was able to express himself freely, without worrying about limits, having once been unable to listen to music outside the Children of God cult.
Released in September 2011, their second album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, was a great success, named the fifth best album of 2011 by Pitchfork. Their first single, Vomit, was made available as a free download ahead of the release of the album and its music video.
