About — The artist
Havana D'Primera is a Cuban timba band founded by Alexander Abreu on October 4, 2007, the date of their first concert at the Cabaret Turquino at the Habana Libre hotel in Havana. The band brings together a collective of sixteen top-level musicians from the Cuban music scene, and has achieved international success, notably performing for Beyoncé and Jay-Z during their visit to Havana in 2013.
Singer and songwriter Alexander Abreu has received several awards for his artistic career: best timba trumpeter in 2000, and best folk album for La Rumba Soy Yo at the 2001 Latin Grammy Awards. Since its founding, the band has released five studio albums and one live album; their first album, Haciendo Historia, won the award for best debut album at the 2010 Cubadisco gala.
