About — The artist
Jan Talich Jr, born on 11 March 1967 in Prague, is a Czech violinist and conductor.
Talich studied at the Prague Conservatory and then at the Prague Academy of Music under Václav Snítil. He received scholarships to continue his training in the United States with Shmuel Ashkenasi, and then with Yfrah Neaman at the Guildhall School of Music in England. In 1989, he won first prize at the Václav Huml International Violin Competition in Zagreb, which launched his international career as a soloist, with concerts and recitals throughout Europe and the United States. Jan Talich has recorded several solo albums of Czech music, as well as concertos by Beethoven and Mozart. He regularly gives masterclasses, in the Czech Republic and abroad, notably in Telč, Dijon, Angers, Prades, and at the Conservatoire supérieur de Paris. With the Talich Quartet, founded by his uncle Jan Talich Sr (1945–2020), he has performed with great success, touring regularly in major venues in Japan, South America, Mexico, and South Korea. In addition to leading his own orchestra since its founding, in recent years he has developed his career as a guest conductor with numerous other orchestras in the Czech Republic and abroad. Since 2008/09, he has been principal conductor of the South Bohemian Chamber Philharmonic (Jihočeská komorní filharmonie). Jan Talich plays violins by J. Gagliano (1780) and A. Stradivarius (1729).
