About — The artist
Jean-Luc Jeener is a French author, director, actor and theatre critic, born on 5 March 1949. He is the author of some forty plays, most of them published and performed. Since 1997, he has directed the Théâtre du Nord-Ouest in Paris.
A graduate in theology and of the Catholic faith, Jean-Luc Jeener champions a theatre 'of incarnation', a phrase chosen for its Christian resonance. In his manifesto Pour un théâtre chrétien, he draws a parallel between the both human and divine nature of Christ and the actor's experience of becoming the character while remaining themselves. In his stage direction, the search for psychological truth in the characters predominates.
