About — The artist
H. P. Lovecraft is an American psychedelic rock band, formed in Chicago in 1967. Named after the horror writer H. P. Lovecraft, the group draws on his works for its music, which combines elements of psychedelia and folk rock.
Signed to Philips Records, the band released its first single, "Anyway That You Want Me", followed by its self-titled debut album in 1967, which included its best-known song, "The White Ship". After moving to San Francisco and performing frequently in the Bay Area, the band released a second album, H. P. Lovecraft II, in 1968, before splitting up in early 1969.
The original members George Edwards and Michael Tegza then formed a new line-up under the shortened name Lovecraft. This second incarnation released the album Valley of the Moon in 1970, then, after a further name change to Love Craft, the album We Love You Whoever You Are in 1975.
