Meursault

Meursault is a Scottish indie rock band from Edinburgh, formed in 2006. Led by singer and songwriter Neil Pennycook, it has been classed as folktronica, alternative rock and indie folk. The band itself describes its latest work as "epic lo-fi". The name refers to the main character of The Stranger, the absurdist novel by Albert Camus.

Their releases have generally been well received by music and cultural media, in Scotland as well as nationally. In 2009, The Skinny placed their debut album, Pissing On Bonfires / Kissing With Tongues, at number 16 on its "Scottish Albums of the Decade" list. Their second album, All Creatures Will Make Merry, received favourable reviews from several notable outlets, including the BBC, Pitchfork, Bearded, Clash, The List and The Skinny.

In 2009 and 2010, the band received regular airplay on BBC local and national radio, and was featured by several BBC presenters, including Gideon Coe, Marc Riley, Vic Galloway and Nemone. It has performed at numerous festivals, including RockNess, T in the Park, Truck, End of the Road and Glastonbury. In May 2013, their third studio album, Something for the Weakened, was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) award. In 2017, the album "I Will Kill Again" was again longlisted for that prize. Their latest full-length album, Crow Hill, was released in mid-2019.
