About — The artist
Patti Smith is the poet of punk: "Horses" (1975) fused rock 'n' roll and beat poetry to open the way for the entire New York scene, and "Because the Night," co-written with Springsteen, brought her to mainstream audiences. A celebrated writer ("Just Kids"), the moral conscience of rock inducted into the Hall of Fame, she continues to sing with undiminished fervor. Her Paris concerts—a city she cherishes above all others—are moments of grace between recital, prayer, and insurrection.
