About — The artist
Pierre Alamire (also Petrus Alamire; probably born Peter van den Hove; c. 1470 – 26 June 1536) was a Renaissance music copyist, composer, instrumentalist, mining engineer, merchant, diplomat and German-Dutch spy. He was one of the most skilled music copyists of his time, and many now-famous works by Franco-Flemish composers owe their survival to his celebrated illuminated copies. He was also a spy for the court of Henry VIII of England.
