About — The artist

Scott Gardner Shriner (born July 11, 1965) is an American musician, best known as a member of the rock band Weezer, with whom he has recorded thirteen studio albums. Having joined the band in 2001, Shriner is its longest-serving bassist.

Before his music career, Shriner served in the United States Marine Corps. At age twenty-five, he moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue music, taking classes at the Musicians Institute. Shriner then played with several independent bands, and toured as a member of Vanilla Ice's backing band, in support of the rapper's nu metal album, Hard to Swallow.

In 2001, Shriner joined Weezer on a provisional basis, following the sudden departure of bassist Mikey Welsh, who had left the band for personal reasons. Becoming his permanent replacement, Shriner made his studio debut on the band's fourth album, Maladroit (2002).

During the tour supporting the band's fifth album, Make Believe (2005), Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo would sometimes hand over lead vocal duties to Shriner and bandmates Brian Bell and Patrick Wilson for certain songs. This increased vocal role continued on the band's self-titled 2008 album (nicknamed the "Red Album"), on which Shriner co-wrote "Cold Dark World" and took lead vocals on "Cold Dark World" and "King."
