About — The artist

The Anniversary is an American band formed in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1997 by Josh Berwanger, James David, Christian Jankowski, Adrianne Verhoeven and Justin Roelofs, after a lineup that remained unstable for a year. After two years of shows across the Midwest alongside bands such as The Get Up Kids, Braid and Superchunk, the band signed to Vagrant Records.

Initially seen as a keyboard-driven emo pop band with its first album, Designing a Nervous Breakdown (2000), it moved toward a sound closer to classic rock with a split CD with Superdrag in 2001, then its second album, Your Majesty (2002). After an intensive tour in 2002 and 2003, the band began demoing a third album, but four years of touring and internal tensions led to its breakup in early 2004.

Four and a half years after the split, Vagrant Records released Devil on Our Side, a compilation of B-sides and unreleased tracks.
