About — The artist
The Oppressed are a Welsh Oi! band formed in 1981 in Cardiff, Wales. Most of the band's line-ups have been made up of skinheads.
Throughout the band's career, its members, and in particular vocalist Roddy Moreno, have openly expressed their opposition to racism and fascism, in their lyrics, their interviews, their on-stage remarks and other actions. In 1989, Moreno travelled to New York and met several members of Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice (SHARP). On his return to the UK, he began promoting SHARP's ideals among British skinheads. The band also maintained links with other anti-racist organisations, such as Anti-Fascist Action. Moreno is a supporter of Cardiff City F.C., and some of the band's songs express that support.
The band has split up and reformed several times, the first time in 1984; Moreno then devoted himself to his labels, Oi! Records and Ska Records, for the rest of the decade.
After a split in 2016, the band reformed in 2020 with Roddy Moreno (vocals/guitar), Russell "Ducky" Payne (guitar), founding member, Che Jones (drums) and Ross Goldworthy (bass).
