About — The artist
Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002 by keyboardist Martijn Westerholt. After leaving Within Temptation in 2001, Westerholt founded Delain the following year, intending the group to be only a project, but he ended it after the release of a single demo. In 2005, Westerholt revived Delain with singer Charlotte Wessels, and in September 2006 released the first studio album, Lucidity. The band began performing live after the positive reception the album received.
Following the release of the band's sixth studio album, Apocalypse & Chill, in February 2020, the members parted ways the following year, while Westerholt stated that he would carry on Delain as a solo project. In June 2021, Westerholt announced a new line-up bringing together former and new members, with Diana Leah later announced as the new lead vocalist in August 2022. After the formation of this new line-up, the band released its seventh studio album, Dark Waters, in February 2023.
As of 2026, Delain has released seven studio albums, three EPs, one live album and nineteen music videos.
