About — The artist
Tool ([tʰuːl]) is an American progressive metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1990 by vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey, and bassist Paul D'Amour. D'Amour left the band in 1995 and was replaced by Justin Chancellor from the British band Peach shortly before the recording of their second album, Ænima.
The band draws its power from heavy metal, its emotional depth from progressive rock, and its ability to create a full and captivating atmosphere from psychedelic rock. They released their first studio album, Undertow, in 1993, followed in 1996 by a second album, Ænima, which brought the band to prominence in the alternative metal scene. They gained further popularity with the release of Lateralus in 2001 and 10,000 Days in 2006. A fifth studio album, titled Fear Inoculum, was released on 30 August 2019, thirteen years after the previous one.
