WE Are

We Are Scientists is an American indie rock band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2000, the band is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. After several self-produced EPs, they released their first album with a major label, Virgin Records, in late 2005. The band consists of Keith Murray (guitar and vocals), Chris Cain (bass and backing vocals), and most recently, Andy Burrows (drums).

The band's name reportedly does not come from a Cap'n Jazz song, but from an awkward conversation with a U-Haul employee who was inspecting a van the band had rented. The U-Haul employee tried to make conversation and allegedly asked one of the three band members if they were scientists. They reportedly replied that they were musicians, not scientists, but later regretted telling the truth...

In 2007, they toured with the band Kaiser Chiefs. In the same year, they were nominated for Best International Band at the NME Awards, which was ultimately won by My Chemical Romance. On November 1, 2007, it was announced that drummer Michael Tapper was leaving the band before their UK tour. The drumming position remained vacant for five years until it was finally filled by Andy Burrows (ex-Razorlight) for the release of the album Barbara in 2010.
