About — The venue

The École militaire is both a military higher education institution founded in 1751 by King Louis XV, and the complex of buildings constructed to house it in Paris in the 7th arrondissement. Built in the 18th century by the king's architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel, this monumental complex is still in operation. It closes the south-eastern perspective of the Champ-de-Mars, where the annual troop review used to take place, later moved to the Champs-Élysées. It has been classified as a historical monument since 1990.

The École supérieure de guerre (ESG), the highest French military educational institution designed to train staff officers and general officers, was located within the École militaire from 1876 to 1993. It was renamed in 1993 as the Collège interarmées de Défense (CID), then in 2011 as the École de guerre, also located within the École militaire.

The site is served by line 8 at the École Militaire metro station.
