About — The venue
Lycée Jules-Ferry is a French public secondary education institution, located at 77 Boulevard de Clichy, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris.
Opened in 1913 as a girls' high school, Lycée Jules-Ferry is emblematic of Third Republic school architecture and imbued with the hygienist principles that guided its design. Between 1917 and 1923, it hosted France's first preparatory class for girls for the École centrale des arts et manufactures. After 1945, its annexes included the current Lycée Honoré-de-Balzac (1948-1955) and Collège Stéphane-Mallarmé (1959-1964). Like many high schools, it housed a kindergarten (or 11th grade), preparatory classes (10th-9th grade) and elementary classes (8th-7th grade), which were closed between 1936 and 1957. The first boys were admitted to the preparatory classes for the Grandes Écoles in the 1960s. The first secondary cycle became mixed in the 1975 academic year, and the second in the 1980 academic year.
A mixed, unpartitioned school complex, Lycée Jules-Ferry includes a middle school, a high school, and literary preparatory classes.
