Basilique Saint Bonaventure

The Basilique Saint-Bonaventure de Lyon is a religious building devoted to Catholic worship, located at the heart of the Presqu'île in Lyon, in the Cordeliers district. This church remains the only medieval building still standing in the north of the 2nd arrondissement, following the construction of the rue Impériale (now rue de la République) and the redevelopment of place des Cordeliers under the Second Empire by the prefect of the Rhône, Claude-Marius Vaïsse. An urban sanctuary since 1971, rather than a parish church, it was raised to the rank of minor basilica by Pope Francis on 28 September 2019.
