About — The venue
The Saint-Nazaire-et-Saint-Celse Cathedral is a Gothic-style church located in Béziers in the French department of Hérault and the Occitanie region. The cathedral is built in the western part of the old medieval city, on a large promontory that dominates the Orb plain at the same level as the Lycée Henri-IV (1598); the whole complex being built on the buttresses of the ancient ramparts of the city of Hérault. The viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the Languedoc plain and its surrounding villages, stretching to the Black Mountain, Caroux, and Pyrenees massifs silhouetted on the horizon.
The cathedral has been classified as a historical monument since the 1840 list.
Since 2023, the cathedral has been served by Father Hervé Dussel, parish priest and archpriest of the Cathédrale-Cœur de Ville de Béziers parish. He also serves as episcopal vicar for the Béziers-Biterrois sector. He was appointed to these positions effective September 1, 2023, by Mgr Norbert Turini, Archbishop of Montpellier.
