About — The venue
The Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne (MAHHSA) is located within the grounds of Sainte-Anne Hospital, now the Groupe hospitalier universitaire (GHU), in the 14th arrondissement of Paris.
Directed by Anne-Marie Dubois, who is its Scientific Director, the museum organises annual temporary exhibitions, designed around specific themes. Its entire collection can be viewed on the Navigart platform.
The museum's collection aligns with its mission, which is to explore the connections between art and psychiatry.
The museum aims to present the works of patient-artists for their aesthetic quality and to recontextualise them within a general artistic framework, with the goal of destigmatising the perception of works produced in a hospital setting.
It was awarded the “Musée de France” designation in 2016. It is managed by an association recognised as being of general public interest, the Centre d’Étude de l’Expression, created in 1973, which also provides art therapy training and possesses a significant documentation centre.
