About — The venue
Parc de la Villette is a public park located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, a north-eastern sector of Paris, in the French region of Île-de-France. It was inaugurated on 12 October 1987, in the presence of President François Mitterrand.
The park is situated on the site of the former Villette abattoirs, built in 1867 by decision of Napoleon III and Prefect Haussmann, and destroyed in 1974. It spans 55 hectares, including 33 hectares of green spaces, making it the largest green space in the capital, ahead of the Tuileries Garden (25.5 ha), Parc des Buttes-Chaumont (25 ha), and Luxembourg Garden (23 ha).
