For five albums now, André Manoukian has drawn on Armenian music as an inexhaustible source, its colours blending perfectly with modal jazz. His piano becomes his intimate memory, his cultural heritage, a language of tenderness. Between East and West, his compositions are supported by the spectacular phrasing of Indian tablas played by Mosin Kawa, the powerful double bass of Gilles Coquard, the cajón of Anissa Nehar, and the sumptuous violins of the Orchestre Appassionato conducted by Mathieu Herzog, arranged by Manoukian himself and Simon Cochard. A horizon without borders, Levantine arabesques like so many initiatory routes, labyrinths that seem to follow the folds and creases of our memories. Finally, the voice of Arpi Alto, an Armenian diva, delivers two poignant lullabies.

« Ma Sultane  » is what my mother called my little sister before covering her with kisses. A Turkish word expressing the overflowing love of Armenian mothers for their daughters. Boys would hear themselves murmured to as: mon Pacha.
