From 19 September to 7 November 2026, RDV presents Aux arbres, les sentinelles, an exhibition by artist Pierre Kurczewski as part of the Quinzaine Photographique Nantaise. Opening on Friday 18 September from 6 pm. Artist talk and reading on Saturday 10 October at 5 pm.

In 2025, Pierre Kurczewski published a boxed book set consisting of 9 booklets, each accompanied by a text. Each booklet presents elements from 9 distinct series. It is images taken from two of these series that are being exhibited at the Galerie RDV.

At the heart of this work is the idea of landscape conceived as a territory of resonance. Here, the image is thought of not as a space that shows or reveals, but as a space beyond, or even beneath. A crossed-through image.

The use of photographic technique is therefore not considered as a means of possible representation, but as that of a reinvestment of space.

The two series presented here thus question the issues of the image, through a reflection on our relationship to the landscape and the intimate, or perhaps on what might be called an "intimacy of the landscape".

This work explores the notions of trace, erasure and disappearance, recording and marking, observation, construction and deconstruction, and, more generally, the tensions between the notion of nature and that of culture.

These images, named Trees, Paths, Mountains-Skies or Sentinels, invite us to perceive this space that connects our intimacy to the landscape. They open up a field, that of the fragile equilibrium that connects us to or separates us from the living world.
