Album: « The Road to Freedom »
After spending many years exploring the repertoire of the great jazz(wo)men in Barbara Sings The Blues, then delving into the roots of jazz with the album Blues Everywhere I Go, Barbara Hendricks now presents a new project: The Road to Freedom (Le Chemin vers la Liberté). Blues and gospel songs played a very important role in accompanying and inspiring the brave activists who fought for civil rights in the United States, a struggle led by Martin Luther King in the 1950s and 1960s. Barbara Hendricks lends her instantly recognisable voice to this music for an original programme with a powerful and deeply topical message.
