Erik Truffaz & Antonio Lizana

Erik Truffaz and Antonio Lizana invite us to hear a new orchestration of Sketches of Spain, the masterpiece by Miles Davis, joined on stage by flamenco dancer Ana Pérez. Between invention and a return to the roots, jazz and flamenco come together for the best of both in a luminous danced concert, with arrangements of such subtlety. The links between jazz and flamenco are nothing new. Jazz has always been a vampire music, and these two genres rely on solid structures to find their freedom. The encounter between the trumpeter-alchemist Erik Truffaz and the flamenco saxophonist and singer Antonio Lizana is therefore self-evident, and it is sealed in a remarkable reinterpretation of Sketches of Spain, the legendary Miles Davis album released in 1960. The Swiss musician has often been compared to the American jazzman for his sensitivity, his phrasing and his economy of notes (like his elder, he only plays the most beautiful ones). With New Sketches of Spain, the duo nevertheless breaks free by digging into the Spanish roots of the album. On stage, the magnetic presence of dancer Ana Pérez heightens the power of the septet led by the two companions.
