On Christmas Eve, Frédérique visits her daughter Mathilde, who has been trapped for years in a relationship marked by domestic violence. Behind this impulsive initiative lies the unconscious desire to free her daughter. But faced with a mother as disconcerting as she is endearing, will Mathilde, accustomed to male control since adolescence, be able to hear this call to action? “Ça, c’est l’amour” offers an immersion into the heart of a family story where the transmission of wounds seems to be inscribed in the genes. The humour, tenderness and humanity of the characters allow the complexity of family ties to be addressed without looking away, but also without falling into pathos.
