Des roses et des violettes

This performance traces the journey of Violette Guillarme as a mother facing her daughter's medical care, and weaves a narrative between personal and social vulnerabilities. The experience of the hospitalisations was chilling, far from the care we would have expected and deserved.

We found ourselves confronted with a punitive policy of mistreatment: an anachronistic medicine that seemed to have come out of a cupboard in the nineteenth century, while a patriarchal and sadistic order sought to 'correct' women's bodies. The desire came to create from this concrete experience, to make something that overflows the real, to make something collective out of our bruised intimacies.

Des Roses et des Violettes gives words and performance to the need for repair, as a celebration of vulnerability and the fragile beauty of being alive. Of this beauty that makes us beings of connection: connections to ourselves, between us, to our bodies, to the women who came before us, to the ghosts that haunt us as well as to those who care for us.
