Overview
Double photo exhibition by video artist and photographer Loïc Gatteau featuring "Sophie et Moi", focusing on gender transition, and "Visages Matura: Entre deux âges", focusing on the passage into adulthood.
The exhibition "Sophie et Moi" In early 2023, at the age of 30, Sophie Marletta began her gender transition. Sophie et Moi offers a sensitive account of this journey, at the crossroads of photography and sound.
The fruit of a collaboration between Nantes-based artists Loïc Gatteau, working with imagery, and Marie Thireau, working with sound, the project accompanies Sophie/Anthony throughout their transformation.
Thirteen photographic portraits, taken each month under identical studio conditions, form a series in which the bodily changes associated with testosterone progressively reveal themselves.
Beneath each image, a QR code provides access to a sound capsule: thoughts, feelings, and anecdotes accompany the physical transformation, while the voice itself metamorphoses. In parallel, seven podcast episodes extend this intimate narrative.
Through interviews conducted by Marie Thireau, Sophie/Anthony discusses their experience, their questions, and a period they describe as a "second puberty".
Blending photographic vision with spoken word, Sophie et Moi thus explores transition as a process that is simultaneously physical, intimate, and temporal: an ongoing metamorphosis.
Visages Matura: Entre deux âges A series of black-and-white portraits capturing teenagers at the precise moment when childhood begins to recede. They are in their final year of high school (terminale).
In a few months, the baccalaureate will symbolically mark their passage into adulthood. Between these two moments, their faces become a territory of transition: features sharpen, attitudes shift, something unravels while something else emerges.
In front of the lens, the frontality imposes a sense of suspension. No artifice, no set design: just faces and gazes. Gazes that seem to hesitate between what they are leaving behind and what awaits them.
The neutrality of the setup then allows something else to appear: a silent relationship between the subject and the observer. A direct exchange, sometimes confronting, sometimes intro
