The Día de Muertos is one of the most emblematic traditions of Mexican culture. Born from the meeting of pre-Hispanic cosmovisions and the religious practices introduced during the colonial period, it has become a richly coloured celebration, which takes different forms depending on the region and the community, around 2 November. Inspired by the book of the same name, the exhibition offers a journey through this diversity: craftwork, altars, offerings, flowers, gastronomy, music, dances, costumes, masks, parades and processions bear witness to the many ways of welcoming and celebrating the departed. Through a selection of images, objects and testimonies, the exhibition highlights the richness of this living heritage. Far more than a celebration of death, the Día de Muertos celebrates life, memory and the bonds that unite the living with those who came before them.
