Exposition « Surréelles » au Musée d'arts de Nantes

From Leonor Fini to Hélène Delprat, another journey through Surrealism.

Home to one of the most significant collections devoted to Claude Cahun, a leading figure of Surrealism born in Nantes, the museum invites visitors to discover women artists who took part in the Surrealist impulse, transformed it and carried it forward to the present day. Gathering works from the 1920s to the present, the exhibition highlights the distinctive contribution these women creators made to Surrealism. A movement founded on the liberation of the unconscious and the rejection of convention, Surrealism lends itself particularly well to personal and experimental appropriation. The route places historical and contemporary works side by side to show how these artists have seized upon its principles and continue to make them their own, in order to question their relationship to the world and to themselves. Painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, literature and film come together to reveal the richness of their artistic practices. In the manner of a carte blanche within the exhibition, the museum invites Hélène Delprat to step into the heart of the route. The artist has devised a striking installation built around the play of identities.

The Musée d'arts is open every day from 11am to 7pm, except Tuesdays. Late opening on Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm (free admission).
