Franck Amsallem - Miles at 100

Pianist and composer Franck Amsallem presents the Miles at 100 project, a tribute to the trumpeter on the occasion of his centenary.

Franck Amsallem is a French-American jazz pianist, arranger, composer and singer who has been active since the 1970s. After studying at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris and subsequently at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, he collaborated with major jazz figures and released several acclaimed albums, including Out a Day, issued in 1992 on the Sunnyside Records label. His piano writing draws on the great bop tradition while incorporating contemporary harmonies and a particular focus on vocal textures.

On stage, Franck Amsallem generally performs within a small ensemble, accompanied by a double bassist and drummer, fostering mutual listening and interaction. The featured repertoire revisits the work of Miles Davis through the prism of his original arrangements, oscillating between energetic tempos and stripped-down ballads. The instrumental contributions leave ample room for improvisation and group dynamics.

This evening is tailored for acoustic jazz enthusiasts and listeners keen to discover a pianistically demanding interpretation of historical repertoires. Espace Sorano is hosting this concert in a setting conducive to attentive listening, allowing the audience to closely follow the interaction among the musicians on stage.
