Overview
Ballet in 2 acts by Adolphe ADAM - Duration: 2H20 with interval. « Giselle » represents the pinnacle of the romantic ballet, considered one of the most beautiful jewels of the repertoire. Created in 1841, its success was immediate.
« Giselle » addresses all the themes of Romanticism: local colour and amorous pastoral that ends in tragedy, the irruption of a fantastical world and redemption through the power of love.
The title role of « Giselle » is one of the most demanding in the repertoire, requiring of the performer, in addition to flawless technical mastery, qualities of dramatic expression moving from joie de vivre to despair, then to madness and passion.
The choreography, quite surprising for its time, struck the public with the solidity of its structure, both in the grand ensemble scenes of the corps de ballet and in the solos.
This masterpiece of classical ballet is a delight for all admirers of dance, thanks to the performance of the artists of the Grand Ballet of Kyiv. It is a show for the whole family, for the young and the old alike, a symphony of dance, touching and marvellous.
