Group exhibition featuring a selection of photographic works from the collection of the artothèque de Nantes and Le Ring – Musée d’arts de Nantes, as part of the Bicentenary of Photography and the 40th anniversary of the artothèque des Beaux-Arts Nantes Saint-Nazaire.
To mark the 40th anniversary of the artothèque des Beaux-Arts de Nantes Saint-Nazaire and as part of the Bicentenary of Photography, the school has invited the Musée d’arts de Nantes and the Centre Claude Cahun pour la photographie to curate a group exhibition tracing the history of photographic collections acquired by the artothèque.
In 2011 and 2018, some of the most fragile works from the artothèque Le Ring were transferred to the museum's reserves.
This anniversary provides an opportunity to highlight a unique and historical photographic selection from 1986 to the present day, through joint curation between the museum, the artothèque, and the Centre Claude Cahun.
Taking its title from the evocative Bashung song La Nuit je mens, the exhibition offers a "nocturnal and tormented vision" of the photography collection, where bodies, cities, landscapes, and objects evoke unfathomable perceptions shadowed by madness.
Featuring Jean-Claude Bélégou, Frédéric Bellay, Hicham Benohoud, Pierre Besson, Jérôme Blin, Daphné Boussion, Jean-Paul Brohez, Hannah Collins, Louise Crawford and Stéphan Gueneau, Justin Delareux, Juliette-Andréa Elie, Angèle Etoundi Essamba, EVOR, Gaël Forcet-Moreau, Franck Gérard, Gilles Gerbaud, Alain Guillard, Camille Hervouet, Marie-Jeanne Hoffner, Rebecca Horn, Rebecca Horne, Barbara Kruger, Oleg Kulik, Amélie Labourdette, Bernard Lanteri, Anaïs Lapel, Christine Laquet, Marc Le Mené, Annie-Laurie Le Ravalec, Hélène Marcoz, Olive Martin, Dominique Milbéo, Panamarenko, Ian Paterson, Antonio Tabernero, Victor Tetaz-Josse, Andreas Trogisch.
