Madame and Monsieur Jourdain have everything to be happy. Bourgeois married for years and working together as upholsterers, they are the parents of Lucille, an adorable and intelligent young girl. Madame Jourdain, a benevolent wife, turns a blind eye to her husband's whims as he spends lavishly to become a "gentilhomme" (gentleman). Thus, he takes music, dance, fencing, and philosophy lessons from so-called masters.
But one day, Monsieur Jourdain decides he wants to be loved by a Marquise and to marry his daughter to a nobleman. Madame Jourdain then decides to put an end to this madness. With everyone's help, she puts her bourgeois husband back on the right path (without his knowledge) and, through a trick, makes him believe he has achieved his dreams.
