He rose to prominence for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Hamilton, and made a highly anticipated return to Broadway in September 2025, reprising this iconic role.
Nine years after his departure from the original production, his limited engagement helped Hamilton achieve its highest grossing week in its ten-year run on Broadway. After his initial run in Hamilton, Leslie Odom, Jr.
returned to Broadway in 2023 as a producer, alongside his wife Nicolette Robinson and producer Jeffrey Richards, for the revival of the classic American comedy Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch, written by the legendary Ossie Davis.
This new production was critically acclaimed. Odom was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance, while the show received six nominations and won one award. Purlie Victorious was also filmed and broadcast as part of the Great Performances series on PBS.
In film and television, Leslie Odom, Jr. continues to captivate audiences, notably with his portrayal of legendary soul singer Sam Cooke in Regina King's Amazon film adaptation One Night in Miami.
His critically acclaimed performance, as well as his rendition of the original song Speak Now, earned him numerous awards and nominations.
