The first surprise: the ancestor of French is not Gaulish but the "roman", the Romance language that grew out of the Latin of Julius Caesar, the conqueror of Gaul.
Through successive invasions and conquests, this Latin absorbed influences from every quarter before becoming the French of our philosophers, so prized at the courts of eighteenth-century Europe.
Lorànt Deutsch brings his gift as a storyteller to a subject that is fascinating for lovers of history and linguistics alike. The actor invites us to understand and savour the French language more fully.
In a high-energy one-man show, Lorànt Deutsch takes us on a journey along the trails of the French language and history.
This new interactive version of his free adaptation of his book Romanesque, la folle aventure de la langue française, promises a delightfully introspective look at the language of Molière.
