LUMA Arles / In Search of… Incredible

LUMA Arles presents In Search of… Incredible, a new exhibition by Julianknxx, poet, artist and filmmaker born in Sierra Leone and based in London, accompanied by a specially commissioned work. Working across film, sound and performance, Julianknxx has developed a distinctive practice that brings poetry and moving image into dialogue, creating pieces in which memory is carried, spoken and continually reformulated. The work explores the resonances of migration and diaspora, weaving intimate narratives into collective histories and giving presence to voices and experiences that are too often absent from dominant accounts.

At the heart of the exhibition, the new commission unfolds as an immersive environment where image, sound and language converge. A sense of belonging emerges there as something both fragile and active, shaped by transmission, inheritance and acts of remembrance. The artist approaches storytelling as a space of encounter, where personal testimony becomes a means of reflecting on broader questions of identity and continuity.

In Search of… Incredible reveals Julianknxx's capacity to create works of profound intensity, emotional as much as formal. The practice pluralises the ways in which stories can be told and experienced, and asserts itself as one of the most striking voices of its generation. The exhibition bears witness to LUMA Arles' lasting commitment to supporting artists who question and renew our understanding of image, history and the politics of voice.
