LUMA Arles / In the Veins

LUMA Arles presents the European premiere of In The Veins, a new film by Camille Henrot, co-produced by LUMA. Conceived as an immersive work in moving images, the film explores the invisible currents that shape human experience – emotions, beliefs, desires and inherited narratives that pass through individuals and generations, linking them to broader systems of meaning. Henrot approaches these forces as both intimate and systemic, revealing how inner lives are inseparable from the social, cultural and symbolic structures that surround them.

With In The Veins, Henrot reflects on tenderness and care as fundamental yet increasingly fragile conditions, particularly in our relationships with children and the animal world. Ubiquitous in the symbolic universe of childhood, animals gradually fade from adult life, a sign of a wider estrangement from nature and a profound cultural dissonance. Against the backdrop of the climate crisis, the work confronts the emotional complexity of raising children in an era marked by uncertainty, pain and anticipation.

Drawing on anthropology, psychology and ecology, Henrot considers care and nature as cyclical rather than linear processes, challenging dominant narratives of progress and control. The film unfolds as a sensory and reflective space in which vulnerability and interdependence appear as essential conditions of existence.

This new film marks a significant development in Camille Henrot's practice, and confirms the role of LUMA Arles as a space for experimentation and production, supporting artists in creating works that help us find our bearings and reimagine a shared future.
