[M&A] Tashi Dorji & Audrey Chen (BT-US/TW-US) | Kaze (JP/FR – Muzzix)

Improvisation and free jazz

This concert is part of the Muzzix & Associés showcase, taking place in the Lille metropolitan area from 18 September to 22 October 2026. Tashi Dorji & Audrey Chen (BT-US/TW-US) Free voice and guitar

Guitarist Tashi Dorji and vocalist Audrey Chen are among the most singular figures in contemporary improvised music. For more than twenty years, each has developed a deeply personal language: Audrey Chen explores every resource of the voice, from the faintest breaths to the most unexpected detonations, while Tashi Dorji turns the guitar away from its conventional uses, blending raw energy, folk inheritances and sonic abstraction.

Born in Bhutan and based in North Carolina, Tashi Dorji draws as much on the traditions of his country of origin as on the landscapes of the Appalachians, giving his playing an intensity that is both telluric and profoundly free. Audrey Chen, for her part, shapes a voice of remarkable precision, where technical mastery feeds an expressiveness without limits, moving between singing, breath, cries and vocal textures.

Their meeting in Berlin in 2023 revealed a musical kinship. Together they invent a music that is taut, physical and unpredictable, where repetitive loops and pulses sometimes evoke industrial techno before breaking apart into a profusion of timbres, ruptures and sonic matter. Between radical improvisation and hypnotic power, the duo creates a space for listening in which voice and guitar constantly transform one another, giving birth to music that is as visceral as it is unclassifiable.

Kaze (JP/FR, Muzzix) Founded in 2010 at La Malterie in Lille, where it has returned regularly ever since, Kaze has become one of the leading ensembles on the international improvised music scene. The quartet brings together pianist Satoko Fujii, trumpeter Natsuki Tamura, trumpeter Christian Pruvost and drummer Peter Orins, four musicians whose singular worlds meet
