Overview
A performance blending Maki Watanabe's butoh dance with the music of Claude Parle on accordion, Mari Kazue on voice and singing, and Riko Goto on piano, at the Espace Culturel Bertin Poirée in Paris.
This performance brings together four artists around a butoh dance performed by Maki Watanabe, with a musical part entrusted to Claude Parle on accordion, Mari Kazue on voice and singing, and Riko Goto on piano. Butoh is a dance form born in Japan after the Second World War, founded on the slowness of movement and the expression of the body.
On stage, Maki Watanabe's dance unfolds in dialogue with the instruments and the singing. The two worlds, gestural and sonic, respond to each other throughout the performance, without the music merely serving as an accompaniment to the dance.
The Espace Culturel Bertin Poirée, located in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, is a concert and performance venue. The evening is aimed at an audience curious about contemporary dance and vocal and instrumental music, who wish to discover the encounter between butoh and more classical musical forms.
