In the two months before her death, in June and July 1962, Marilyn Monroe recorded an intimate confession almost every day, intended for her psychiatrist, Dr Greenson. It is this intimacy that the show stages, the story of 36 years of a chaotic and paradoxical journey. She fought all her life, alone, against all her demons: her mother's madness, a bruised childhood, the anxious search for her father, being trapped in the persona of a dumb blonde, amplifying her obsessive fear of being stupid and mediocre, repeated romantic failures, dependence on medication and alcohol, suicide attempts. But what makes "Marilyn" a spectacle is her fight, her wild hope for better days. It is the inner chaos of a woman that is staged, using her own weapons, her cheerfulness, her humour and her light as acts of resistance. This is what we sought from the very first rehearsals, and what we carefully maintained throughout the work. Her laughter.
