Overview
Echoing the exhibition Vive la mariée!, the Institut du monde arabe is organising a series of panel discussions around the social, cultural and contemporary issues of marriage in the Arab world.
Love marriage, arranged marriage, dating apps: how is the couple formed today? Between family expectations, individual choices and new spaces of sociability, the romantic encounter reveals the deep transformations of contemporary Arab societies.
By exploring these different models of couple formation, the panel discussion highlights what the methods of meeting say about contemporary societies but also the way in which new forms of emotional and social ties are being invented there.
With: Warda Hadjab, sociologist and associate researcher at IREMAM. Marion Breteau, anthropologist and associate researcher at CEFREPA Kuwait. Laura Odasso, sociologist and senior lecturer at Paris 8 University, attached to the Migrations and Societies Chair.
