By traversing the four successive plateaus that punctuate the museum's journey, visitors enter as many singular universes, fully expressing the plurality of the Arab world in terms of ethnicities, languages, confessions, and cultural traditions. Across four levels and 2,400 m2, visitors are invited to a dialogue between works and objects belonging to fields rarely brought together: ancient and medieval archaeology, art and craftsmanship, ethnography, and modern and contemporary creation.

In 2022, the Museum of the Institut du monde arabe received a generous donation: a collection of archives, painted ceramics, and numerous gouache drawings, executed in the late 1960s during social therapy workshops conducted at the Blida-Joinville psychiatric hospital (HPB), an Algerian institution marked by the emblematic figure of Frantz Fanon.
