Homage to Bartók
On the occasion of the anniversary of Béla Bartók's passing, the Liszt Institute Paris presents an evening of homage at the Czech Institute, as part of the Carte blanche à la Hongrie series. Béla Bartók is at the heart of this recital, which also honours other great Hungarian composers, György Kurtág, who celebrates his 100th birthday this year, and Ferenc Liszt, as well as the Czech composer Leoš Janáček. The programme begins with Janáček's Dans les brumes (In the Mists), followed by a selection from Bartók's Mikrokosmos (Books V and VI), which highlights his musical universe inspired by rhythms, counterpoint, and folk traditions. A selection of Bartók's 14 Bagatelles continues the concert. At the end of this work, the programme gives way to a short improvisation, inspired by the music heard, which links to the second part of the recital. The concert continues with excerpts from En plein air (Out of Doors), Este a székelyeknél (Evening with the Szeklers), then miniatures by György Kurtág, before concluding with Liszt's Funérailles.
